Christmas Carols 2014

Sri Lankan Christmas Holy Mass and Carols in Sydney
The Sri Lankan NSW Catholic Association organised a Christmas Service, Christmas Carols and a musical evening at Croydon on the 13th of December to celebrate Christmas in a traditional way. The Mass was celebrated by Fr. Chrishantha Kumara, the Sri Lankan Chaplain of the Sydney Diocese. Holy Mass was celebrated with the usual Gospel Reading replaced with a Gospel enactment by children from the Sri Lankan community in the sanctuary trained by Rukshan Anthony. Holy Mass was celebrated in all three languages English, Tamil and Sinhalese.
Fr. Chrishantha reminded the congregation that without Christ is empty, as Christian life without Christ is meaningless. He said due to commercialisation of Christmas the true Christmas message has lost its meaning.
After Holy Mass the crowd enjoyed a special carols program with Sri Lankan Tamil Junior choir singing carols followed by the Sri Lankan NSW Catholic Choir singing carols. The evening ended with a prolonged Baila session played by Bonny Fernando and the Heartbeats to a packed dance floor.
Santa arrived to treat the young kids with lollies and the certificates were distributed ti the children who participated in the Gospel enactment by Fr Chrishantha.
We take this opportunity to thank the Bonny Fernando and the HeartBeats for providing a very entertaining evening, Rukshan Antony and his family for training the children, all the children and the parents who participated in the Gospel enactment, Kumarica’s outdoor catering for catering and all those who provided prizes for the raffle, helped us in organising the service and the evening. Last but not least all who attended the service and the carols evening.
We wish you all a very happy Christmas and very best for the New Year. Remember to put Christ back into Christmas. God bless you all.
